Lemon-Lavender Lotion Bar

Give your skin some much-deserved love! Not your average moisturizer, this DIY lotion bar uses the warmth of your body to melt natural emollients and essential oils into the skin to smooth, moisturize and hydrate dry hands, heels, elbows, and more.

With a rich base of coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter, this homemade lotion bar recipe has a smooth and rich consistency. We honestly can’t get enough of the clean and fresh lavender-lemon combo we tried, but feel free to get inspired and create your own essential oil blend!

Bonus Tip: If you want to create an exfoliating texture, we recommend adding in some citrus zest, oatmeal, or dried lavender. Have fun experimenting!

Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil can provide many benefits. From a healthy oil to cook with to a deep conditioning hair mask, coconut oil is versatile in its uses. It is loaded with antioxidants, helping your skin ward off free radicals. cording to the Live the Organic Life, coconut oil is generally categorized into refined and virgin coconut oils. Unrefined coconut oil may also be called virgin coconut oil. The type of method used to extract the oil from the coconut is done in the most natural way. This way, the coconut oil stays in its natural form without the use of any artificial filtering which is sometimes used in the process of refined coconut oil. No chemicals are used in the process of extracting coconut oil using this method.

Beewax:

Beeswax is a highly versatile ingredient and is heavily used to make homemade soap bars harder and longer lasting, in lotion bar recipes to add hardness and emollient properties, in lip balm recipes, lotion recipes and a whole lot more.

Shea Butter:

Shea Butter is a great natural ingredient because it acts as a moisturizer and gives a nice glow to the skin. It helps make the skin supple by providing hydration; and therefore, is an amazing skin conditioning agent.

Cocoa Butter:

Cocoa butter is great for naturally healing dry, sensitive skin. Real cocoa butter is completely edible, plus it’s also used very often in skin lotions, lip glosses, chapsticks and other beauty ointments. Cocoa butter is a healthy fat, mostly saturated just like coconut oil.

Essential Oils:

Essential oils are that aromatic, volatile liquid that comes from within flowers, shrubs, trees, roots, seeds, bushes. They are usually extracted by steam distillation, but other extraction methods are used depending on the botanical. Essential oils not only make everything smell good, but they have several beneficial properties, including skin care. The better quality essential oil will give you more of the oil benefit. You need to be aware that there is no rating system for essential oils in the United Stated. The closest we get is an FDA requirement that in order to label a bottle essential “pure” or “therapeutic grade”, the contents of that bottle must contain at least 5% essential oil! That means 95% of the bottle can be something else. You need to make sure you buy your essential oils from a reputable company. My favorite trustworthy and affordable essential oil brand is Young Living.

A few of my favorite essential oils for skin care, include: lemon, lavender, and frankincense. All these oils are included in the Young Living Premium Starter Kit. Click HERE to find out how to order essential oils.
